How Much Is a Scooter/Moped? – With 12 Examples

Scooters and mopeds have a lot of advantages over most motorized vehicles, and one of the most appreciated ones is the price. Everybody knows that even the most expensive scooter doesn’t even come close to the price of a new car. But scooters are very diverse, there are hundreds of manufacturers, a lot of different engines, and so on. So saying an exact price for a scooter can be quite hard, unless you have at least an overall idea of what kind of scooter you want.

How much is a scooter/moped? A scooter can cost anywhere from $500 up to $20.000, depending on the model. But on average you can expect to pay around $3000 for a new scooter and $1000 for a new scooter.

As you can see the price can vary a lot, but if you know what kind of model you want, it can be quite easy to get an average. So let’s take a look at some of the most popular models: 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, 200cc and 250cc scooters and mopeds.

Quick reminder: I don’t endorse any of the sites presented in this article, and I’m not affiliated with them in any way. I am just simply using them as examples.

How Much Is a 50cc Scooter/Moped

50cc and 49cc scooters are basically the same thing since their engines are usually 49.xcc, and almost never go over 50cc since then they would have to be classified as something more powerful than they are.

In general  you can expect to pay about $700 for a 50cc scooter. Here are some examples of some of the most popular scooters on the market and their price:

So overall there is not a very big difference in price between most models, and as I said you can expect to pay around $700 for a 50cc scooter.

Of course there are big brands like Honda, Vespa, Yamaha, etc. But those scooters cost at least $3000 so they kind of break the idea of a cheap and inexpensive way of moving around. But if you are interested in a brand name you can always visit their official site or a dealership and get the exact details there.

50cc scooters are the cheapest and the most popular choice for somebody who wants a scooter just to go from home to work. If you want to travel longer distances a more powerful scooter would be a better option for you, even if you have to pay a little more money.

How Much Is a 150cc Scooter

A 150cc scooter is what most people would consider a midrange powered scooter, they are very useful to move around the city and can even be used for short distance traveling.

In general  you can expect to pay about $1500 for a 150cc scooter. Here are some examples of some of the most popular scooters on the market and their price:

150cc Scooters can be found at around $1500, you might find some at $1400 as the ones in the example, or you might find some that are a little more expensive. But nothing extremely expensive. So if you want to get a 150cc scooter you should have around $1500.

Now that we are done covering the mid range scooters let’s move to the really powerful ones.

How Much Is a 250cc Scooter

250 cc scooters are  some of the most powerful scooters available on the market.  They can reach up to 75 mph (120km/h). So they are quite fast. But they still remain in a reasonable price range.

In general  you can expect to pay about $2300 for a 250cc scooter. Here are some examples of some of the most popular scooters on the market and their price:

As you can see, 250cc scooters look a lot more like motorcycles than scooters, but compared to motorcycles they are a lot more affordable, and they also have enough speed.

So if you want to buy a 250cc scooter you can expect to spend around $2300. Which is almost an $1000 increase from the 150cc but for those extra dollars you will get a great sports look and a lot of extra power to back up the racing look.

Conclusion

So those are the prices. But as you can imagine they might change a little overtime, but usually there is no major change, except for big sales. Most retailers have some kind of sale during balck friday, or similar occasions.

As time passes some models might get removed from the market and replaced. But when this happens their replacement is usually in the same price range. Most companies usually try to have at least one inexpensive option. So if wanted for example RandomName Scooter 50cc v2.0, but you can’t find it on the market but you find RandomName Scooter 50cc v3.0, than this is the new model an you should get this one since is the closest thing to the one you wanted, and the price is probably the same.
